My journey as a coach for the Panama Olympic Committee
Being a leadership, motivation, and well-being coach for the Panama Olympic Committee has been a transformative experience. Working alongside high-performance athletes, coaches, and interdisciplinary teams has allowed me to closely witness the passion and discipline required to honor a country’s name.
In every workshop and session I design and deliver, we discover together that true strength is measured by the ability to connect as a team, hold steady under pressure, and multiply energy to reach new goals.
I have supported those who represent Panama on international stages and have seen how trust, resilience, and unity become fuel to overcome any challenge. Being part of that process is more than a job—it is a privilege and a life mission.
My philosophy
I believe in the multiplier effect of people. A leader who inspires, an athlete who commits, or a team that supports one another has the power to create impact far beyond a competition. That is why every dynamic, talk, and shared space with the Panama Olympic Committee has been guided by one conviction: to elevate leadership through authenticity and well-being, so that sport becomes a platform for transformation.

What does my name mean? طارق
My parents named me Tarek thanks to a letter my grandfather sent from Lebanon, before they even knew they were expecting me. In the letter, my grandfather congratulated them on their first son and asked that I be named Tarek in honor of the Arab conqueror of the Iberian Peninsula who began the conquest by entering through the Strait of Gibraltar.
The name “Gibraltar” is derived in Spanish from the Arabic name Jabal Tāriq (جبل طارق), which means “mountain of Tarek.”
Etymologically, Tarek means “evening star.” It appears in the Qur’an, and the meaning I like most is: one who knocks on the door and brings good news.
Where am I from?
I am Panamanian, Colombian, and Lebanese. How so?
I was born in the city of Colón—yes, C3. In 1978, my parents were living in San Andrés Islands, Colombia. The island’s health center was not adequately equipped, so they decided to come to Panama for my birth.
I spent my early years in San Andrés—the sea of seven colors—which is why I love the ocean, the beach, and freedom so much. I was always in shorts and almost always barefoot. Before turning seven, we all moved to Colón so my sisters could begin their university studies.
My Lebanese roots come from my parents—both are from Lebanon, a country known as the Switzerland of the Middle East. It is seven times smaller than Panama and has an incredible culture and cuisine.
Why did I decide to train others and become a coach?
I have always had three passions: teaching, helping, and selling. Since school, I have been teaching and generating ideas to solve problems, make money, and support those in need. In my final years of school and throughout my university life, I held leadership roles that helped me develop responsibility, dynamism, and commitment.
It was at university that I realized I could combine my three passions and dedicate myself to that path. In my twenties, I realized I had found my life’s purpose: training others. And since then, I have never stopped.
The experience has been unique because I have worked with both local and multinational companies, NGOs, and small foundations across Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe—always doing what I love.
